On the Waterfront

In January of 1995, The Renegade Theater Company of Hoboken, NJ performer a three night sold out run of on the waterfront. The performance was a benefit for the Renegade’s new theater in Hoboken, marking the first time this company has had a home of its own. Over the past several years, Renegade has developed a reputation among the New York theater community for presenting innovative and highly entertaining plays.

On the Waterfront first came to national attention when the film was released in 1954. Filmed in Hoboken, NJ the classic movie won eight Academy Awards, including Best Screenplay (Budd Schulberg), Best Actor (Marlon Brando) and Best Picture.

The stage adaptation of On the Waterfront written by Budd Schulberg in association with Stan Silverman shares the unforgettable characters of the film classic but it delves deeper in the story of Father Barry, the impassioned cleric fighting the personal and professional corruption that permeated the waterfront in the 1950’s.
